The body of a small child was discovered Sunday while cops were searching for a missing 3-year-old Texas girl, authorities said.
The body was found in a culvert under a road in Richardson around 11 a.m., Richardson police said. However, police have not confirmed if the body was that of Sherin Mathews, the toddler who has been missing since Oct. 7.
Police didn’t say how the child died but said they are waiting for the FBI’s recovery team to respond.
Sherin's adoptive father, Wesley Mathews, told cops he made the little girl stand outside their home as punishment for not drinking her milk. He claims he went to check up on her at 3:15 a.m. but she was gone.
The 37-year-old father is a suspect in the case. Cops said Mathews waited five hours to report the toddler missing.
